How Often to Change Your Oil

Many modern cars go 5,000–7,500 miles on the right oil — some longer if the manual says so. Short trips and hard use call for shorter intervals.

Oil change intervals aren’t one number for every vehicle. The manual and how you drive matter more than a generic sticker.

A solid rule of thumb

  • Check the owner’s manual for miles and months

  • Many daily drivers: about 5,000–7,500 miles on the right oil

  • Short trips, towing, or dusty work: shorter interval

  • Don’t ignore the oil life monitor if your vehicle has one — but still inspect

What we do at each change

Drain and refill with the correct grade, new filter, check for leaks, and top off other fluids when you ask. It’s also a good time to glance at tires and brakes so nothing sneaks up on you.
